Overview

FTS needed to move from a traditional Coral PBX which was shared among many companies in the building (the telephony company provided the PBX services). The customer had no control over the PBX in any aspect and wanted to take advantage of new technology.

The main challenge was to have a seamless transition to the new PBX with minimal downtime. The goal was to install and move to the new phone system in less than one day.

SmartBase was chosen to implement the solution because of their vast experience with IP PBX and their quick responsiveness and willingness to make it work.

Customer Requirements

The customer required a very basic phone system with no special configuration or trees for extensions, since they employ a secretary that routes the calls to the employees if needed.

The only thing requiring porting was the main office number announcement, to make sure that during off hours the system would pick up the calls.

SIP phones were a must for this project as the customer did not want to rely on the old phones nor on the wiring in the walls. Moreover, the customer wanted the flexibility to move a phone from place to place (including to a new office).

An additional benefit from the IP system was the fact the traveling users have a softphone option while on the road; their high availability is important and this option is a great benefit. Users can now work from home or while on the road using their local number, which leads to big savings in the long run.

A few extensions were installed at the FTS branch offices as well. As a result, employees can talk over the company’s dedicated LAN to Bulgaria, US and Moscow.

Proposed Solution

Results

Once the PRI was in place, the implementation took approximately half a working day. During that time all numbers were transferred to the new line, and each user was configured with a voice mailbox and outbound DID/CID.

The new system is managed by the customer’s IT staff, eliminating their dependence on the workload and business hours of the vendor. The customer’s helpdesk team can easily create, modify and add new conference and regular extensions. With the previous PBX, these tasks were time-consuming and required coordination with the PBX operator.
