Trixbox® Installation - Analog Astribank

Installing Astribank FXS/FXO on Trixbox CE

Xorcom’s Astribanks are now fully supported by Trixbox® CE (Community Edition), version 2.2.9;

No need to install any additional packages. It looks like Trixbox will keep supporting our Astribanks in their future versions 2.2.x too.

Please note, that the new Trixbox CE, (versions 2.3.x and up, based on Asterisk 1.4, currently on beta stage) do not support our Astribanks yet.

For Trixbox CE versions earlier than 2.2.9 upgraded Zaptel packages should be installed ,according to the standard Trixbox upgrade procedure at least to version 1.2.21-5.

It is recommended to install our freePBX Zaptel hardware detection module to save time when defining Zaptel extensions for Astribank FXS modules.

Installing the freePBX Zaptel hardware detection module

1. Get the command line terminal and login as user root

2. Install the latest zapauto RPM:
rpm -Uvh http://updates.xorcom.com/astribank/trixbox/repo/freepbx-module-zapauto-0.6.6-4669.noarch.rpm

Using the freePBX Zaptel hardware detection module

In order to perform the hardware detection by using the command line utility:

  • Connect the Astribank device(s)
  • Run /var/lib/asterisk/bin/detect_zap
  • Log on to the freePBX with your Internet browser. You will see that the freePBX has detected some configuration changes. Apply them.

Alternatively, you can enable the Zaptel configuration module for freePBX and then perform the hardware detection by using the Web interface:

  • On the Trixbox web interface, switch to the System Administration mode (click the switch link on the right upper corner). The default user is maint and the default password is password.
  • Navigate to Asterisk | FreePBX. The freePBX configurator is displayed.
  • Expand the Tools menu.
  • Select the Module Admin entry. The Module Administration page is displayed.
  • Enable (at least) the modules core and Zaptel configuration.
  • Click Process and then click the Confirm button.
  • If required, press on the red bar (Apply Configuration Changes) at the top of the screen and reload the page.
  • Navigate to the Setup page.
  • Choose Zaptel configuration and follow the instructions. When finished, all the FXS extensions will be configured with numbers starting from 401. Press on the red bar (Apply Configuration Changes) at the top of the screen. Now you can review the configured extensions in the dialog Extensions of FreePBX.

Regardless of the hardware detection method you used the following files will be created in the /etc/asterisk directory:

zapata-auto.conf – includes a description of all trunks (FXO and BRI channels). Please note, that those trunks are assigned to group 0 which allows you to make outgoing calls by using predefined in freePBX route 9_outside. (Ref. Outbound Routes in the freePBX menu.)
zapata_additional.conf – includes a description of all Zaptel extensions (FXS channels). Please note, that this file is re-created automatically by FreePBX after you make any changes in the Extensions.
