Agnostic GPL Call Recording Solution Developed Jointly with OrecX |
Joint Xorcom-OrecX solution significantly increases recording capacity and allows both PSTN and IP calls to be recorded and stored with identifying information for cataloging and later retrieval, without taxing PBX resourcesSeptember 1, 2009 – Misgav, Israel and IT Expo West, Los Angeles, California – Xorcom, a privately-held manufacturer of business telephony interfaces and appliances based on Asterisk open-source software, today announced that it has partnered with OrecX, a provider of open source VoIP recording solutions, to offer an open source utility that records calls from both hardware (PSTN) and software (IP) sources, along with identifying information, such as caller ID and destination extension. The joint solution is GNU General Public License (GPL), and comprised of a patch Xorcom developed for Asterisk and OrecX’s Oreka GPL VoIP call recording system. Significant Increase in Simultaneous Calls Recorded CapacityAlthough the current Asterisk versions include support for call recording, this capability is limited in the number of calls that can be recorded simultaneously, due to the stress this activity places on the PBX processor. With the joint Xorcom/OrecX implementation, the call recording application is located on an external server to conserve resources. Agnostic Solution Collects Caller Identification Information from Any SourceThe joint solution requires no special drivers, and will work with any Asterisk-based PBX, irrespective of the hardware used. In addition, the joint solution registers both initiator and recipient caller identification information, and can pass this information on to a third-party application. For customers requiring search and categorization of recordings based on time or date of call, incoming phone number, outgoing phone number, etc., a non-GPL GUI version based on OrecX’s Oreka TR is available. AvailabilityThe joint Xorcom/OrecX call recording utility is destined to be incorporated in the main Asterisk distribution. Until then, it can be obtained as a patch which was tested with Asterisk version 1.4.25 and applies to all later versions (latest 1.4 is 1.4.26.1). It may work with older versions.
