Low-Cost Telephony via Cellular Networks Provided in Bundled Solution |
Asterisk®-based IP-PBX from Xorcom Bundled with GSM Gateway from Hypermedia Provides Low-Cost Telephony via Cellular NetworksJoint solution allows customers in areas lacking landline coverage to use cellular infrastructure as a basis for IP telephonyXorcom, a privately-held manufacturer of business telephony interfaces and appliances based on Asterisk open-source software, today announced that it has partnered with Hypermedia Systems (“Hypermedia”), a manufacturer of next-generation telecommunication products, to provide communication solutions for customers based on cellular networks. The joint solution is comprised of Xorcom’s Asterisk-based IP-PBX and Hypermedia’s GSM gateway and is particularly relevant for customers in geographical areas where landline infrastructure is lacking, where wired Internet is missing, or where additional GSM ports can enhance corporate operations and reduce operating costs.“Out-of-the-Box” Solution Based on PRI-to-PRI ConnectionConnected via ISDN PRI (Primary Rate Interface, a popular method for high-density digital transmission of voice signals), the Xorcom IP-PBX model XR3050 and Astribank™ model XR0008 channel bank, along with the Hypermedia HG3000 GSM gateway, provide an instant opportunity to deploy hundreds of analog (FXS) ports and/or SIP phones in places that do not have the landline infrastructure. Using a PRI-to-PRI connection simplifies the interface between the two devices, accelerates the set-up, and reduces maintenance issues. It also provides additional methods for achieving low-cost telecom access by using VoIP to any telephony provider worldwide, and by completely eliminating the charge for calls between branches.Asterisk High-End Appliance Provides Robust Telephony to Outlying AreasThe Xorcom XR3000 IP-PBX is a stand-alone appliance that runs Asterisk and Astribank VoIP telephony interfaces on a standard 19" 2U rack-mountable chassis. It features easy-to-use, reliable, high-bandwidth and high-density USB2 technology and supports all the main analog and digital telephony interfaces, including FXS, FXO, E1/T1 PRI, E1 R2 and BRI. With external Astribank channel bank units, the XR3000 supports up to 640 PSTN / analog phone ports, up to 1000 users and up to 300 concurrent calls.USB 2.0-connected Channel Banks Provide Additional Ports, EffortlesslyAstribank is a versatile and powerful channel bank that supports all the common telephony lines and trunks: FXS, FXO, BRI, PRI and R2. Specifically designed for the Asterisk IP-PBX, the Astribank driver is a part of the standard Asterisk distribution, making its integration into any Asterisk-based PBX effortless. Inclusion of Astribank units in the joint Xorcom/Hypermedia solution provides additional FXS (analog extension) ports for the bundled system.Practical and Cost-Effective Alternative to Fixed-to-Mobile CallsThe HG-3000 GSM Gateway from Hypermedia Systems provides an alternative to fixed-to-mobile or mobile-to-fixed telephone calls in areas where landline infrastructure does not exist. In addition, the LCR modules built into the Asterisk and the Hypermedia GSM gateway route incoming and outgoing cellular-targeted calls via the mobile telephone network, which results in low-cost mobile-to-mobile calls and substantial call savings.“The joint Hypermedia-Xorcom solution provides much needed high-speed Internet access and advanced telephony to areas where landlines do not reach,” notes Rami Hershkovitz, VP Sales, Hypermedia Systems. “Even in places where landline infrastructure exists, the bundled solution can provide connection to alternative carriers’ equipment / networks to reduce the call rates and increase net savings.” “Flexibility and scalability are additional benefits of the joint solution,” states Izzy Gal, VP Innovation at Xorcom. “Both the Xorcom IP-PBX and the Hypermedia GSM gateway are modular in nature, enabling simple system upgrade. Adding more FXS ports, SIP phones or GSM channels is a simple procedure that can be done in minutes.” About HypermediaEstablished in 2003, Hypermedia Systems develops and manufactures next-generation telecommunication products.
