Asterisk PBX Server Load Test Results Published by Xorcom |
Detailed Data Provides Accurate Basis for Computing Actual Call Capacity of IP-PBXXorcom, a privately-held manufacturer of business telephony interfaces and appliances based on Asterisk open source software has just published load test results for high end Asterisk®-based IP-PBX telephony configurations. The results, which reflect months of optimization efforts and repeated testing, provide factual evidence of the capacity of different configurations of the IP-PBX to handle telephony traffic with various codecs and echo cancellation tail sizes. In a recent Webinar, which was recorded and is available for download, Xorcom shared their experiences and provided several tips for maximizing Asterisk server performance. The load test results have also been published on the Xorcom Web site. Results Provide Detailed Information about Simultaneous Call CapacityLoad tests were performed for four different configurations of the Xorcom stand-alone IP-PBX. The first configuration was comprised of an XR3000 with 20 USB2-connected Astribank XR0008 devices (32 FXS ports each), supporting a total of 640 FXS extensions, 120 I/O ports , and 760 DAHDI channels. The second configuration was comprised of an XR3000 with four USB2-connected Astribank XR0056 devices (4 E1/T1 ports each) and the G.729 codec for SIP calls, supporting a total of 16 E1/T1 ports and 480 DAHDI channels. The third configuration was identical to the second, except that the G.711a codec was used instead of the G.729. The final configuration tested maximum capacity for simultaneous VoIP calls for G.729 to G.711. For all configurations, detailed information is provided about the testing environment and the call capacity. To be included in the number of maximum simultaneous calls in the published results, the voice in the call had to be clear, without interruptions. Recent Webinar Discussed Results; Provided Asterisk Server Optimization TipsIn a Webinar held recently, the results of the load tests were discussed. Xorcom technical staff provided several tips for optimizing performance in Asterisk-based servers, relating to a variety of topics including hardware component selection and Asterisk tuning. The recorded version of the Webinar is available for download from the Xorcom Web site in various formats, under the name “Five Culprits that Kill Asterisk IP-PBX Performance”. Asterisk Appliances – Xorcom PBX LineThe Xorcom IP-PBX is a stand-alone appliance that runs Asterisk and Astribank VoIP telephony interfaces on a standard 19" 1U or 2U rack-mountable chassis. Three IP-PBX models are available to address various capacity requirements, from small systems up to 1,000 users. All Xorcom Asterisk appliances feature easy-to-use, reliable, high-bandwidth and high-density USB 2 technology and support all the main analog and digital telephony interfaces, including FXS, FXO, E1/T1 PRI, T1 CAS, E1 R2 and BRI ISDN.
