Q4 Recruitment Consultancy is a management search and selection company formed during the downturn of the IT marketplace in 2002.
The company recently opened a new office in North London due to its continued success and a new IT contract signed for 2010. Consequently, they required a brand new telephone system, including phone sets. The customer requested something flexible at an affordable price, to be implemented within two weeks.
The main concern was the ability to record calls on demand and monitor active calls.

Phones Correct proposed an Asterisk-based solution using the Xorcom XR2047, which provides one connection to ISDN30 (PRI) with British Telecom (BT), and snom phones. The Xorcom unit was selected as it included the line resources required by the client, ability to record on demand and monitor active calls, and is a tested and proven platform.
To meet the record calls on demand requirement the integrator, Phones Correct, configured a record key on the snom phones. During the course of the conversation the Q4 employee can press the key; they’ll hear a beep sound as an indication that the conversation is being recorded. In order to hear the recorded conversation they connect to the embedded GUI distribution and download the files.
To meet the requirement of monitoring active calls the Asterisk “ChanSpy()” function was used. This allows the customer to dial a preset code and then dial the extension they want to spy on in order to monitor the call.
